REVENUE THRU EDUCATION
PROPOSAL FOR WEBINARS

Economics today prevent many state tourism offices, state associations, CVBs, Chambers and small businesses from bringing in top name tourism speakers and leaders to provide educational opportunities for their members.  There is no other time in history of tour and travel that these very people need new tools and research in order to create new tourism dollars.  The old way of marketing is no longer effective.  Customer service, that has become mediocre over the years, will need a new jump start to improve and this initative should make a difference where tourists spend their dollars.

Dottie Maitland CTP, a tourism leader, Past President of the National Tour Association; appointee for the United States Tour and Travel Advisory Board; Chair of Product Development Committee for the White House Conference on Tour and Travel, brings an innovative webinar program to the group tour industry in cooperation with UNLV and director Patti Shock.  This educational proposal is directed to domestic tourism delegates in both metropolitan and rural areas.  Businesses, large and small, regardless of financing can benefit. This program will allow states and associations to provide education and not lose the revenue that is generated from conferences. With escalating travel costs today convention delegate numbers are decreasing.  This proposal provides a win-win program for all.

Patti Shock, Professor and Director of Distance Learning for the Harrah College of Hotel Administration at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas has created an incentive program for states, chambers, CVBs, associations and businesses who endorse this unique educational opportunity.   Background on Patti Shock is available at:  http://hotel.unlv.edu/hotelweb/shock.html

Webinars, SEMINARS ONLINE, are one hour in length and are recorded.  Live webinars cost $49, and include a link to the recorded version for follow up viewing.  Live webinars allow the opportunity to ask questions, but are limited to specific times.  Recorded webinars cost $29 and are available at any time on demand.  Both live and recorded versions can be viewed at an individual’s computer or opened up in a meeting room for group viewing.

INCENTIVES FOR INDUSTRY ASSOCIATIONS
Partner associations are responsible for marketing the webinars. Members can be given a code to insert during the registration process, which will reduce the registration fee by $5.  This could be promoted as a member benefit.  By tracking the code on our online registration system (RegOnline), regular reports can be provided that show the number of registrations using each code.

We require a minimum of 5 registrants to break even.  We can do some revenue sharing with associations for registrations over the breakeven point.

Topics include the basics of tourism for beginners in the industry as well as for tourism curriculum in high schools, off shore and domestic military schools, community colleges and undergraduate colleges.  Webinars will be offered for advanced leaders in tourism as well.

Topics could include, but are not limited to:
Financial Basics for small tourism entities
Today’s Technology
Sustainable Tourism
Packaging as simple as packing the suitcase
